How to check if you’re hiring the right recruitment consultancy?

When recruitment is tough, like it is for employers and candidates, it can leave you feeling like you need to try everything possible. Whether that’s a DIY approach or investing in a recruiter. But how do you check if you’re hiring the right recruitment consultancy?

Our top tips for hiring the right recruitment consultancy:

Review their testimonials (candidate and employer!)

It might seem obvious but check what others are saying about the recruiter. And we’d recommend checking that from both the employer and candidate side. You don’t want to work with a recruiter who isn’t personable to your prospective employees? Testimonials can give you a feel for the recruiter’s personality but also their approach. And if they aren’t displaying their testimonials prominently (like we do) are they hiding something?

Ask about what roles they fill

Again, it might seem obvious but discussing types and levels of roles etc with your recruiter will explore their expertise, working in partnership in this way will help you find a consultancy that can deliver what you need.

Check their approach: how do they find candidates?

Following on from reviewing what roles they fill, ask about their approach as well. You want to understand if they have more than just a stack of CVs. Especially if you are hiring for a hard-to-fill or senior role. These types of roles are likely to need a different approach than just sending CVs. A pro-active consultative approach rather than a traditional agency style service may be better suited to your roles. Understanding the tactics your potential recruiter may use will help you evaluate if they are right for you.

Understand their terms

Some recruiters can be more restrictive than you’d like when it comes to signing you up. While entering into a good relationship is important, you may want flexibility to use more than one recruiter especially if you have a variety of roles. Understanding what you can and can’t do when it comes to managing your own recruitment is important
