Power Electronics Engineer
£50k - £70k doe plus an excellent benefits package.
This is an outstanding career opportunity for an enthusiastic, driven individual with experience designing power electronics, particularly inverter technology, to lead the development of our client’s new motor controller technology.
The Power Electronics Engineer will work within the Electronics, Software and Systems team, working closely with other engineering disciplines to design, test and deliver a range of innovative motor controllers for high-speed air compressors. The salary is £50k- £70k doe plus hybrid (after 3 month probationary period) and an excellent benefits package.
The individual will be responsible for all the designs, including schematics, PCB layout and report writing to meet both automotive and aerospace requirements. In addition to developing our motor controllers, additional the individual will also be responsible for testing and the design of any supplementary test boards to support this.
Knowledge and Experience
- Degree qualified in Engineering or Science related discipline or equivalent.
- In depth experience designing power electronics, preferably 5 years minimum.
- Experience in motor drive design is a particular advantage, including inverters and DC-DC converters for high-speed motors.
- Experience with analogue circuit design, high voltage and current sensing techniques, different inverter topologies or Snubber Designs.
- Use of schematic capture and PCB layout tools, ideally Altium.
- Experience in mathematical modelling and simulation of circuits and systems, e.g., SPICE, PLECS, SIMetrix.
- Experience designing electrical power systems to meet creepage and clearances for operation up to 1kV.
- Experience designing to automotive or aerospace standards, including experience EMC and environmental testing.
- Confident using workshop tools, including soldering.
- Experience with testing, such as double pulse testing.
- Use of reliability, risk or safety analysis tools for the analysis of hardware, e.g. FTA, DFMEA.
- An understanding of functional safety analysis, design, and validation to standards such as ISO26262 or similar.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, test and deliver power electronics PCBs and systems.
- Be responsible for technical ownership of power electronic circuits, through concept, development and validation.
- Provide technical delivery of development activities to meet timescales and cost targets for R&D products and customer projects.
- Work directly with suppliers and partners with technical requirements and feedback for existing and new designs.
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines (e.g. embedded SW, mechanical design etc.) to develop complete systems.
- Support system integration by providing debugging capability and validation support.
- Report progress to the Project Manager and support project deliverables.
- Support the planning of power electronics related activities.
- Lead and support functional safety activities.
- Lead and support process development activities.
- Support the build of prototype units and test boards.
